For Sale by Owner or List with a Realtor?

Lots of folks try to sell their home on their own….this seller tried and had it under contract twice and neither closed.  Finally.. frustrated and tired of never knowing if he was actually going to move he interviewed agents and hired us to sell his home.

We had him put away a few things for photos and took some great pictures….and built a virtual tour to show off the best features of his home.  The home went into the MLS system Wednesday evening……and on Friday we already had 19 showings scheduled, 1 cash offer and another on the way….and even more calls from agents asking him to hold off on making a decision until they can get their offer written.

Activity he never had before….and it will be sold this weekend.

Did you know 90% of all sales nationally listed their homes with a REALTOR?  And that by using a REALTOR the sellers actually netted more money than if they hadn’t used a REALTOR and saved on the commission?

Wood Garage Door

Faux garage door in process 2Garage door

It seems wasteful to throw away a garage door that works perfectly and doesn’t have any dents…..but I love the look of wooden garage doors.  I met Duane Benton thru his website http://www.ddbservices.com and we picked out the perfect pattern and colors for him to faux paint our garage door.  He began with a base coat….the picture above shows the 2nd coat with him beginning his art work and the finished product!  Love it!  Now another contractor is setting up to cut tile for the backsplash!  Almost done…..

Neiman Marcus Cookie Recipe

Baking cookies will make any house smell like home over the holidays….and instead of just cutting up premade cookies why not bake something that tastes good also?  I have used this recipe with great success….enjoy!

Neiman Marcus Cookie Recipe

2 cups butter

4 cups flour

2 tsp soda

2 cups sugar

5 cups blended oatmeal

24 oz. chocolate chips

2 cups brown sugar

1 tsp salt

1 8 oz. dark chocolate bar

grated 4 eggs

2 tsp baking powder

2 tsp vanilla

3 cups chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)-Optional

Chocolate Chip Cookies

Measure oatmeal and then blend in a blender or food processor to a fine powder. Cream the butter and both sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix together with flour, oatmeal, salt, baking powder and soda. Add chocolate chips, shaved chocolate, nuts and stir until combined. Roll into balls and place two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet or parchment paper lined cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes at 375 degrees.

Military Wives and Nachos…a big Thank You!

Nachos

In 1943 a dozen hungry US military wives walked into the Victory Club in the city of Piedras Negras, Mexico………. Ignacio Anaya was missing a cook….so he took Cheddar Cheese and cut tortillas into triangles and shredded the cheese and cooked them in a broiler and topped them off with jalapenos and called them “Nachos”….since that was his nickname.  Celebrate National Nacho Day on November 6th!  And thank you, Military Wives…..for more than just Nachos!  I am a military brat and watched my Mom (with us) wait for my Dad (her husband) return from TDY when we lived in Okinawa……I know now that she was scared to death when he left each time as she had a good chance of becoming a widow…..her friends, other military wives, took care of all of us and showed their bravery by holding down the fort until their men returned.  Thank you brave wives and Moms!  You are our hero’s!  So plan on having Nacho’s on November 6th in celebration of Military Wives!  I’m going to make a plate and celebrate!

Chandelier Fun

Chandlier Leopard 2 Chandlier Leopard

Sometimes you need to add a little “bling” to your dining area to make it POP.  Try adding chandelier shades…..you can sometimes even find them at thrift stores.  These were ordered from a catalog…I love leopard and just didn’t want to wait to find them somewhere cheaper even though the “find” is sometimes more fun than the result.  I also got a matching chandelier cord in leopard that had a zipper to make it oh so easy to put on!  The crystals actually came off a holiday decoration that was falling apart…sometimes you can get an extra thrill from “recycling”!  Don’t be afraid to “let go” when it comes to decorating a light fixture that might just look too “blah” without shades…you can always recycle the shades when (or if) you get tired of them!  Think “Bling” or at least think “Happy”!
